Linux
There may be a package for your Linux distribution. Try 'yum install ddclient' (RPM-based distros) or 'apt-get install ddclient' (Debian-based distros).
For manual installation insructions, go here.
For SME Server 7, see this page.
After installing the ddclient, you configure it by editing the ddclient.conf file. It will look something like this:
daemon=300 # check every 300 seconds
syslog=yes # log update msgs to syslog
mail=root # mail all msgs to root
mail-failure=root # mail failed update msgs to root
pid=/var/run/ddclient.pid # record PID in file.
ssl=yes # use ssl-support. Works with
# ssl-library
use=web
login=yourdyndnsusername
password=yourdyndnspassword
server=members.dyndns.org, \
protocol=dyndns2 \
your.dyndns.hostname
Make sure ddclient runs at startup. You might just add it to /etc/rc.local.
Verify operation:
tail /etc/ddclient/ddclient.cache
dig hostname.dyndns.org @any.name.server
ps ax|grep dd
Windows
For Windows machines, download and install the DynDNS Updater here.
Be sure to put it in startup.
